Adam Byrnes (born 29 July 1981, Sydney, NSW) is an International professional rugby union player. His position is lock.[2] Byrnes played 2 seasons, 2005/06 & 2006/07, for the Heineken Cup Champion side Leinster in Ireland. Byrnes then made his Super Rugby debut for the Queensland Reds in 2009, and played there into 2010. He then moved to the Melbourne Rebels,[2] and played a big part in their inaugural season where he is a popular figure.
He travelled to Europe in August 2011 to train with Russia for the preparation of the Rugby World Cup. Byrnes played in all four of Russia's World Cup games, v's USA, Italy, Ireland and Australia. [3][4].

Byrnes studied law and has a Diploma of Business. He is looking at getting into property development for life after rugby [1]
His partner Sophie Edington is a four times Commonwealth Games gold medalist, and three time former World Record Holder. Byrnes and Edington attended the Royal Wedding of Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco in 2011.[6]
Byrnes played for Leinster Rugby in the Celtic League and Heineken Cup in 2005-6, making a total of 18 appearances (12 in the starting line-up).
In 2009 Byrnes played eleven of the Reds' thirteen games.[1] Prior to the Reds, Byrnes played for Sydney Fleet, and before that for Easts in Sydney.[1]
Byrnes gained his passion for rugby as a student of Newington College (1987-1999) which boasts famous rugby International players such as Nick Farr-Jones and Phil Kearns as old boys. [7]
In March 2010, Byrnes signed to join the Melbourne Rebels along with Reds' prop Laurie Weeks, and reserve halfback Richard Kingi.[8]
In June 2011 Byrnes was named in Russia's "preliminary training squad of 50 players" to train for the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. He then went on to star for Russia in the 2011 Rugby World Cup playing in all 4 games [3][4]
